The “Fabrique des cultures” is dedicated to culture, therefore it is characterized as the guiding thread of the reconstruction of the space. The work serves both artistic and educational purposes, combining art, sports, cinema, nature, food and habitation.
The Babcock factory consists of a series of parallel spatial structures of various dimensions. The design principle is the Box-inside-the-Box, in which small structures appear inside the large existing volumes. All private spaces, offices, restaurants, small kiosks, rooms, cinemas and sports halls are in the form of small, transparent boxes which are stacked or combined vertically with each other and star in the large halls of the existing building.
The main idea is to connect and communicate all the parts of the building, through a “empty”, linear, longitudinal passage, which crosses all the rooms and connects their respective activities. Therefore the main idea is implemented by constructing the vacuum. A central axis is created, a common pool of communication and interaction that defines the new way of life in Babcock. He invites the visitor to walk inside him and discover his secrets. With a width of 17 meters, this covered road has a local dimension hosting the “directions” of new activities.
