The proposal is an outdoor prototype of a children’s activity park for both winter and summer months. It addresses to children of age 5-12 and concerns their extracurricular education and interests. The proposal will promote artistic creativity and physical skills. The interventions of the proposal are soft and ephemeral and the main goal is to promote the play and the discovery.

The green space of the proposal of the outdoor educational park, is a green “island” in M. Goudi Park. In the heart of the plot there is an abandoned construction, a work of the well-known architect Nikos Valsamakis, a fact that offers the area a further significance. The aim is that the plot will be integrated into the urban fabric, in order to interact with the surrounding area and its neighboring uses.

The main idea is to bring into life the abandoned building, since its strong presence and its monolithic form, makes it a central element of the plot. It will host the Athens Research and Training Center. The architectural interventions have the character of light constructions.

The park around the building accommodates various activities, as it is a public part of the city. The middle part of the road is the “backbone” of the proposal. Parallel paths acquire the form of a wave in the islet of greenery. This space is the core of the plot and leads the visitor to the workshop area. There, the educational activity turns from a pleasant game, into a knowledge experience. Up to 20 children, aged 5-12, can participate in each workshop. The workshops are located in the countryside, transmitting the feeling that being into the outside world is not a risk. They promote freedom and exploration.

The laboratory unit has the following characteristics. It is placed on a wooden deck, which makes it stand-alone and can be placed in any relief. The volumes are linear, with a simple design. It consists of three parts, the passage, the theater and the workplace. In this project the children are in full contact with the environment. For them, nature is the teacher and the classroom is the forest.
