The theme of the architectural workshop for the 13th Biennale Sessions was “The City as Common Ground”. Our proposal for the Universities in 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture was an Animation that suggested a new city organization.
After analyzing how a public space should be like and what is the role of a human in it, we noticed that the fact that we live in an intensive urban world and never rest from our daily routines is reflected by our city’s image. Public spaces such as squares do not represent the past ideals. Squares in the past were our city’s green spots and met our needs for communication and relaxation. Nowadays, there is degradation of various public spaces and as a result deterioration of squares. Squares have lost their previous environmental and social status and turned into unimportant passages.
In our proposal squares are incorporated in the streets. People take over cities while machine degrades. Underground networks are created under the old roads, which now become the “new squares”. Two different worlds are created. The city of men and the city of the machine.
